Prescott Airport

The city of Prescott, Arizona, has a magnificent general aviation airport situated about 5 mi N of the town. The field is the home of Embry-Riddle aeronautical university and I have heard it said that Prescott is the 7th busiest airport in the US, based on the number of departures! There are several FBO's at Prescott including North-Aire, whose aircraft I rent from time to time. Despite the intensive training traffic and scheduled departures to Phoenix, Prescott is an excellent base. Central Arizona enjoys excellent year round weather and the field elevation of 5042' means that the climate at Prescott is pleasantly cool. However, the elevation also means that aircraft are covered in ice on winter mornings and in need of most of Prescott's 7616' takeoff distance in summer!
